John Wall Will Get To Play

John Wall, UK Freshman, will get to play this season...but will miss a exhibition game and the regular season opener before he can.

He must pay $787.58 of expenses consisting mostly of travel expenses from his unoffical visits to campuses during his junior year.

"I'm grateful to have this decision behind me," Wall said in a university issued statement. " All I ever wanted was to go to school and play ball with my team," said UK freshman John Wall. "This has been really hard for my mom and I want to thank her for her support during this process."

John Wall Cleared Eligible To Play

John Wall has been cleared by the NCAA to play. However he will be suspended one exhibition game vs Campbellsville and one regular season game vs Morehead State. He has to repay $787.58 of expenses.

Where Does UK Go From Here?

After losing Adreian Payne and Kyrie Irving to other schools, it makes you wonder what approach UK will be taking to recruiting this year. So far, just one commitment, Stacey Poole. Here's some insight on some of the guys they're currently recruiting right now.

CJ Leslie
He is the most comparable to Adreian Payne’s skill set. CJ lacks the height of Payne but has great athleticism and length. John Wall being a former high school basketball teammate of Leslie has had everyone believing Leslie is a UK lean. With the recent visit he made, you'd have to think UK's chances are good with Leslie.

Tobias Harris
Tobias and his father both love Kentucky and Calipari. UK seems to be in decent position with Harris and he really enjoyed hanging with the players during Big Blue Madness weekend. Tobias and his family are unsure where they want to go now. His list includes Syracuse, Tennessee, Louisville, Maryland, Georgia Tech and West Virginia. Tobias wants to commit before his season starts but it's likely he'll take all of his visits first. He's currently visiting Louisville this weekend.

Terrence Jones
Terrence is a very similar player to Tobias. He likes Kentucky and Calipari’s DDMO. His list includes Washington, Oklahoma, UCLA, Kentucky, Oregon and possibly Arizona and Kansas.

Doron Lamb
The 3 schools Lamb is interested in seem to be in equal position with the SG; UK, Oklahoma and Kansas. He visited each team's campus and they seemed to go equally well. Lamb says Arizona and UCONN will get visits though no dates have been set.

Jelan Kendrick
He has a lot of schools on his list and wants to wait a while before trimming it down. Memphis, Indiana, Georgia Tech and Kentucky are just some of the schools involved with Kendrick. He says UK is still in the race but I would assume he is a Memphis lean.

Brandon Knight
Knight is taking avisit to Kansas this weekend and has previously visited Kentucky and Connecticut. Miami and Florida are also in the hunt but will probably receive unofficial trips. Syracuse may receive an official visit in the future. Kentucky is extremely involved with Knight and feel they're in good position with Knight.

Josh Selby
Josh’s list contains Kansas, Miami, Kentucky, Syracuse and Indiana. All of the schools should receive visits, but none will be official at this point because Selby has not taken the placement test yet. UK's coaching staff is working hard on getting Selby on campus. Expect him to be visiting Lexington sometime in the near future.

Kentucky Picks Up 2 More Football Commitments

UK got commitment from a pair of teammates from Stephenson Hgh School in Stone Mountain, Ga. 3-star Linebacker Jabari Johnson and Tight End Ronnie Shileds have decided to take their collegiate careers to UK. UK will definitely need a linebacker when Micah Johnson graduates after this year. Speaking of Micah, his status for the game vs Mississippi State is after suffering a strained MCL in his knee in last weekend's game vs ULM.

Adreian Payne To Commit Tomorrow?

Rumors are swirling around that Adreian Payne will make his decision tomorrow at 6PM, not Friday as previously reported. There already is speculation that this may be televised on ESPN-U, but nothing is official. Insiders say that Payne is a West Virginia lean. Payne wants to get to the NBA so it would make sense for him to go to a powerhouse program like UK, Michigan State, or Arizona over WVU. West Virginia and Coach Bog Huggins are desperate to land a blue chip prospect like Payne. Sean Miller and Arizona lost a commitment from big man Rod Odom who went to Vanderbilt and will be making a strong push to persuade Payne to playing for them next season. However, many have thought UK was going to be able to land some huge 5-star recruits in November and that's right around the corner. So far, the recruiting process Tobias Harris and Adreian Payne has heated up lately so maybe these guys will be UK Wildcats soon.

Other news and notes;
5-star forwards C.J. Leslie and Terrence Jones were in attendance tonight for the Blue/White Scrimmage.

What Recruit Do You Want The Most?

Former UK Great To Run For Governor?

Richie Farmer, the Commissioner of Agriculture in the state of Kentucky is considering running for governor as a Republican. Farmer is most known as one of "The Unforgettables." If he runs for governor, he will so far be running against current governor Steve Beshear. Being a former UK great and having his jersey retired at Rupp Arena would definitely help him win the vote of the Commonwealth. It would be awesome seeing one of the Cats as the governor of our state.

Adreian Payne To Commit Friday?

Rumors all across the web say that Payne is scheduling a press conference to announce his college decision Friday. UK and WVU are thought to be his leaders. Payne is also considering Michigan State and Arizona. He's rated as a 5-star recruit and is the 5th best Center in the nation according to scout.com. West Virginia seems to be getting away with the possible NCAA Recruiting violations during their Midnight Madness fpr making signs, shirts, and posters doing everything in their power to persuade Payne to commit to the Mountaineers. However, UK fans were told to not even speak the names of the recruits who showed up for Big Blue Madness. Payne wants to take his game to the NBA eventually and is aware that Kentucky will put him on path to achieve that goal.

Payne's Strong areas in his game are:
Defensive Presence
Explosiveness
Upside/Potential

Payne's Weaknesses he needs to improve on:
Low Block Scorer
Strength
A go-to-move

Tubby Smith's Father Passes Away

Tubby Smith's father Guffrie Smith Sr. passed away last night. He was a father of 17 kids and were all raised in Scotland, Maryland. Tubby is a class act and coached UK to numerous memorable moments that none of us in Big Blue Nation will ever forget! Our prayers go out to the Smith family at his time, GOD BLESS!!!!!

Kentucky Knocks Off Louisiana-Monroe

Despite a poor effort from the offense tonight, Kentucky held off a decent ULM team with a 36-13 victory. Early on, UK lost the raining SEC Defensive Player of the Week Micah Johnson with a strained MCL in his knee. The Cats scored 14 points in the first quarter. First, John Conner ran for a one-yard TD. Later in the 1st, Randall Cobb returned the punt for a 73-yard TD.

UK doubled their scored to 28 in the 2nd Qtr. Randall Cobb ran the ball in for an 11-YD TD. Louisiana-Monroe finally got on the board when Cody Wells connected with Luther Ambrose for a ten-yard touchdown pass. Will Fidler of UK threw a 25-yard TD to Randall Cobb.

Kentucky was held scoreless in the 3rd Qtr but ULM scored on a 3-yard run by Frank Goodin. However, the PAT was blocked .

In the 4th Qtr, ULM was shut out and UK picked back up scoring 8 points. The first two were scored off a safety. Later in the 4th Qtr, Randall Burden got an interception and returned it for a 50-yard TD. Seiber's field goal was blocked. Kentucky wins 36-13.

Did West Virginia Commit A Recruiting Violation?

Kentucky fans were told on Big Blue Madness that they weren't allowed to chant the names of the recruits that showed up to Madness. However, West Virginia must think they are above following the rules. On their Madness event this weekend, Mountaineers fans made posters, signs, and T-Shirts with UK recruit's name and face on them with their school colors. Even a fan ran towards where Payne was sitting during Madness and pointed at him prompting assistant coaches to guard Payne for his life! It seems like the NCAA is punishing those they want to and letting others off the hook. Even Duke got into trouble for making signs when Kyrie Irving was their visiting for an official visit. This just doesn't seem fair and I hope the NCAA isn't too blind to not see this and doesn't over look it.

Player Interviews Today From Media Day

Interesting Comments From the Players on Media Day

When they arrived, Daniel Orton and DeMarcus Cousins were playing HORSE and Orton hit a one-handed, underhand three pointer. So, should you find yourself on the blue courts randomly with him, don’t think you can hustle him. He’s a HORSE shark.
- DeMarcus Cousins praised Patterson quite a bit and when asked about his goals, he said “to make history”. When asked if they could go undefeated, Cousins smiled and said “we aren’t thinking about that”.
- An early leader for a great quote, Cousins said he likes Bledsoe because they are “from the same dirt”. I like that.
- When DeAndre Liggins was asked about being the only guy in practice who could keep up with John Wall, Liggins looked up and said “Who said that?”.
- Liggins did stress how different it was this year and called everything “exciting”. He said that this offense is a much better fit for him than last year’s version.
- Daniel Orton said he will return this summer to California to work with Hell’s trainer.
- Some interesting words from Eric Bledsoe who said if Gillispie had stayed at UK, he would have gone to Florida. I can’t recall a player publicly saying something like this up until today.
- Also, Bledsoe said that John Wall coming to UK made him want to be here more. He said he wants to be pushed and wants “nothing handed to him”.
- John Wall was asked about being named pre-season National POY by Goodman and Parrish, he said it was an honor. Dick “Hoops” Weiss followed up and asked what Wall thought pressure was and he replied “That. I didn’t know that”.
- Harrellson says Patrick Patterson has become one of the best shooters on the team. He added that when playing pickup, he will hit 99/100 shots inside the three-point line.

Kentucky Receives ANOTHER Football Commitment

Three start Defensive Back Ryan Smith has committed to the University of Kentucky. He is listed as an athlete and a safety as his positions. Smith hails from Cordova, Alabama where he plays football at Cordova High School. He is 6'2 and weighs 208 pounds. Ryan becomes the 13th commitment to UK's 2010 recruiting class. Smith was receiving offers from Marshall, UAB, Vanderbilt, and Southern Miss. He lives in Walker County where former UK tailback Tony Dixon is from.

Update On QB Situation : Brooks Says Both Will Play

Rich Brooks said today that the starting QB will be a game time decision. Coach also noted that both Will Fidler and Morgan Newton will see game action Saturday at Auburn. The way it's gone back and forth and the wild spread rumors circulating around, I guess we'll just have to wait until game time to officially know. It seems to be one of those you have to see it to believe it situations to actually know who UK's starting QB will be. We'll keep you updated as the reports and rumors continue to swirl around Big Blue Nation.

Kentucky Settles Lawsuit With Gillispie For $2.98 Million

The University of Kentucky and Billy Gillispie reached a $2.98 million settlement. Gillispie was seeking $6 million for breach of contract and fraud relating to his March 28th firing this year. I know what you're saying, "what contract did he ever sign?" Kentucky was suing Gillispie also. UK fired Gillispie for not being a good fit in the program. The University will also pay $265,000 for Gillispie's legal and mediation fees. It was thought that when Gillispie was in town during the week of his most recent DUI arrest that UK was going to give him $4 million but when he was arrested, he lost that opportunity.

Eric Simmons Commits To Kentucky Football

Eric Simmons of Atlanta, GA. has committed to the University of Kentucky. He is a cornerback from Westlake High School. Simmons is a speedster, running the 40 yard dash in 4.38 seconds. He is 6'0 and weighs 185 lbs. This is the 11th commitment for UK in the 2010 class and it's another Georgia kid Joker Phillips has been able to recruit to UK. Eric had been recruited by the following schools; Arkansas State, Indiana, Memphis,
Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Tennessee, UAB and Virginia Tech

Big Blue Madness Will Air Live On-line

UKAA will have a live stream Friday of Big Blue Madness on their official site. So good news to all of you Blue Bloods out of the state. It's free of charge in case you were wondering. The only television coverage of this even will be aired on the Big Blue Sports Network. We do not know yet if Fox Sports will pick up Madness but the only confirmed station to air the event on TV is WKYT-27 in Lexington which is a local channel.

Sources Confirm Morgan Newton Will Start

According to Larry Vaught, sources are confirming that Morgan Newton will start in place of the injured Mike Hartline. Rich Brooks however won't confirm a starter yet. Both Will Fidler and Morgan Newton have done well in practice this week. The older players are more supportive of Will Fidler because he has been there a while and they believe Fidler deserves shot at starting. Fidler had over 9,000 passing yards in his high school career. Morgan Newton was a top QB prospect in last year's recruiting class and was the Mr. Football of Indiana last year. Newton perhaps could be the best UK QB to take the field since Tim Couch. Hopefully his debut will flow a lot easier than previous UK QB's who have struggled in their debut. Rich Brooks confirmed that Randall Cobb will not be the full time starting QB because it would change the offense too much but I would still expect Cobb to take a few more snaps at QB in the Wildcat Offense to keep the game in control. Newton's father, says "Morgan is ready" and when he gets his chance, he promises their will be "fireworks and excitement!"

South Carolina 28 - Kentucky 26

The South Carolina Gamecocks come from behind and steal another victory from the Cats. In the 1st Qtr, Lones Seiber hit a 36 yard FG and gave UK a 3-0 lead. With 3:35 left in the 1st Qtr, Stephen Garcia threw a 20-yard TD pass to Alshon Jeffery. PAT was good. 7-3 USC. In the 2nd Qtr, with 14:34 to go in the wnd Qtr, Derrick Locke scored an 11-yard TD. Seiber's PAT was good and UK leads 10-7. 13:06 left in the 1st half, Stephen Garcia threw a 28-yard TD pass to Alshon Jeffery. Field goal was good for Spencer Lanning. 14-10 Gamecocks. With 9:06 remaining in the 2nd Qtr, Mike Hartline threw a 7-yard TD pass to Randall Cobb. The PAT was good for Lones Seiber and UK reclaims the lead 17-14. The 3rd Qtr is where it starts to fall apart for Kentucky when Mike Hartline was injured and a very bad play call by Rich Brooks to fake the field goal and run the ball with Cobb which would have won UK the game if they made the FG. I never thought I'd say Mike Hartline not being in the game costed UK a win. South Carolina took the lead again with 6:29 left in the 3rd Qtr when Stephen Garcia threw a 22-yard TD pass to Alshon Jeffery. Lanning's PAT was good, 21-17 South Carolina. With 1:24 left in the 1st Qtr, Lones Seiber kicked a 35-yard FG. Carolina still leads 21-20. In the 4th Qtr with 8:22 left in the game, Stephen Garcia ran the ball for a yard for a TD. PAT was good and South Carolina goes up by eight. Too little, too late, Randall Cobb ran the ball 2-yards for a TD. The 2-point conversion was no good and UK falls to South Carolina, 28-26.

The 100th Birthday of The Kentucky Wildcat

Today is the 100th anniversary of when the University of Kentucky became known as the Wildcats. The name was given after a 6-2 win for Kentucky football over win over Illinois on October 9th, 1909. The students after the game said the team fought like wildcats and that's how it all started. The Kentucky Wildcat is one of the most famous mascots around college sports and is known by everyone nationally.

This video features the last time UK beat the Gamecocks in football. On October 10th, 1998, Tim Couch lead UK to a 33-28 victory at Commonwealth Stadium.

Game 5 Preview: Kentucky Wildcats vs #25 South Carolina Gamecocks

Kentucky will face off against the South Carolina Gamecocks (4-1) tomorrow at Williams-Brice Stadium. The game is set to start at 12:30 PM and will be aired on FSN South, Southwest, Houston, FSN Prime Ticket, and Sun Sports. UK was favored in this game 2 years ago and blew a first half lead last year in Lexington. Hopefully UK can break the losing streak against their long time SEC East foe. Randall Cobb and Calvin Harrison have been named team captains for this game, along with the permanent team captains Zipp Duncan and Corey Peters. Both of UK's starting cornerbacks will be out with injuries. Trevard Lindley (sprained ankle) and Paul Warford (quadriceps strain). Offensive Tackle Justin Jeffries will be out (strained achilles tendon). Randall Burden and Martavius Neloms will both start at cornerback and Brad Durham will start at right tackle.

Tobias Harris Plans To Verbally Commit Before His Season

Tobias Harris would like to verbally commit to a school before his high school basketball season starts. He could potentially sign in the early November signing period. Harris is visiting Tennessee today and will be visiting UK for Big Blue Madness next Friday. Harris says he is looking for the team with the best plan for him as a player and a student. Also, the bond and trust he can form with the coach. His list includes seven schools; Maryland, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, and Syracuse.

Terrence Jones Wants To Sign His Letter of Intent in Nov.

But for that to happen, he obviously has to cut six of the seven teams he is considering off of his list. Jones is considering; Washington, Oregon, Oklahoma, Kansas, Kentucky, Arizona and UCLA. He is visiting Oklahoma this weekend. Next week he will visit Kansas or Arizona. Terrence is scheduled to visit UK on October 28th. His final scheduled visit is set for November 6th. The early signing period in which recruits are allowed to sign is from November 11th-18th. Remember last year UK picked up Jon Hood and Daniel Orton during the early signing period.

Coach Cal Speaks About His Cats At The Wildcat Tipoff Luncheon

Yesterday in Louisville, Coach Cal talked how much greater DeAndre Liggins has became and that he will really surprise people this year. He talked about how great a player Darius Miller has became. Miller made the Team USA 19 and under basketball team and that definitely boosted his confidence in his game. Coach Cal spoke about how Patrick Patterson has really emerged as the team leader. Patterson will be playing as a guard furing the games but when the game is on the line, you will find Patrick under the goal in the low post. John Wall has showed potential to being a strong leader as on of the new incoming players.

Coach Cal also stressed how he wants to find a way to get both of his PGs on the floor at the same time as well as his two centers Daniel Orton and DeMarcus Cousins. Calipari talked about how he had to get the team on the same level. He said that his freshman have the mentality of feeling like they can win it all and claim the national title. But on the hand, he says he needs to get his seven returning players to get on the level who's confidence are shaken up and forget about how everything last season went.

Coach also talked about rotating games between Indiana and Notre Dame each year on the schedule in the future. Potentially playing Kansas in St. Louis. He also said playing Duke in Atlanta is something they might think about. Calipari said he'd like to get some games with Cincinnati and play more games in Nashville.

Brandon Knight Will Appear On ESPNU's Recruiting Insider Today

In case you forgot what happened a couple weeks ago when one of UK's recruits was on that show, UK received a commitment from that recruit Stacey Poole. I'm not saying Brandon Knight will commit at 5:30 PM when he's on the show, but it defintely gives you that feeling. He will be on the show to talk basketball with Lowell Galindo and the the National Recruiting Director of ESPN, Paul Biancardi.

Mystery Behind The Player Locked In The Bathroom Stall Solved

For months now UK fans have been speculating who the player is that was told by Gillispie to lock himself in the bathroom during halftime. Many have said it was from he likes of players like Darius Miller, Derrick Jasper, or A.J. Stewart. Josh Harrellson turns out to be the one who was told to lock himself in the stall during the half time on the road in Vanderbilt. Harrellson said coach was just frustrated and he understood why. Harrellson stated that he listened and watched Gillispie give the team instruction from the stall since the bathrooms and locker room were connected. Also, Gillispie made Harrellson ride back to Lexington in the equipment truck rather than riding the bus with the rest of the players. Josh was able to get over the situation well and has said that his and Gillispie's relationship was good, even after the accident. The team wound up finding humor in all of this when one of Josh's teammates, Perry Stevenson said, "I wish you had flushed the toilet." Just another one of those situations about Billy Gillispie we will never understand.

CJ Leslie To Commit to UK After Madness?

A long time message board poster named Dave Kersey in Mexico who's word is very credible says he's hearing the CJ Leslie will commit to UK after Big Blue Madness. Take that for what it's worth, I don't know the man so I can't tell you if it's true or not, but I hear he has a good reputation as he's considered an insider by some sources. It's not too surprising as Leslie was thought to be a UK lean these past few weeks and he is a former high school basketball teammate of John Wall. Some people have compared Leslie's game to Kevin Garnett's style of play, which should really get you pumped about the possibility of Coach Cal landing this recruit. I guess we just wait this one out until after next Friday to see if Mr. Kersey is right or wrong.

Bledsoe Says Cats Talk A lot About Going Undefeated

Eric Bledsoe says the Cats this year talk a lot about running the table this year and bringing home the title in 2010. Kentucky returns a veteran All-American Patrick Patterson and six extremely talented new recruits to make up the nation's #1 recruiting class. Perhaps some say the best recruiting class of all-time. John Calipari downplays the thoughts of running the table saying don't expect UK to be great in November and maybe not even December. Cal says success doesn't happen over night and it will take time to teach every one the dribble drive motion offense. Plus, six newcomers will be making the transition to the college level. Calipari says,

Who Should Start At QB For UK vs South Carolina?

I'll ask this question one more time to see what you think after two big games for Hartline to prove himself.

Let's Talk a Little John Calipari

As we all know, First year Kentucky Men's Basketball Coach, John Calipari, has made a HUGE impact on the Kentucky Basketball Program in just the few months he's been here. He's brought in the #1 recruit in the nation, John Wall along With a few other Great players such as Eric Bledsoe, Daniel Orton, Darnell Dodson and a bunch of others. Kentucky could really easily go to the Elite 8 or further This year, even an NCAA championship. When Patrick Patterson was thinking of going in the NBA, there wasn't a whole lot to be leaving behind. But when John Calipari came on and brought all these recruits in, he new if he went to the NBA, he'd be missing out on a possible NCAA Championship this year. This is what he said,

"I'm thinking NCAA championship," Patterson said. "When I saw the arsenal of players that we could have and the great amount of talent, that was just another reason for me to come back."

It's really going to be exciting to see what will happen this year with the Cats.

The Most Talented Team He Ever Had

The Kentucky Men's Basketball program had just got finished with one of their workouts in August when Kentuky Coach John Calipari (Daniel Orton's story)exited, and left for the Craft Center Parking Lot where His wife picked him up.

"Coach told us all that he got in the car with his wife and said, 'This might be the most talented team I've ever had,'" Orton recounted. "And she said, 'You're kidding me.' And he said, 'No, I'm serious.'

"He explained to us that he's had bad players on teams before but there are no bad players here all the way down to the last man," Orton said. "Plus, he's never had this kind of size and length."

DeMarcus Cousins, was a bit taken back by his pronouncment. This what he had to say,

"Coach Cal said it himself. He told us this might be his most talented team out of all the teams he's ever coached," He said. "With him saying that, I know something special is about to happen."

Re-live UK's Last Win Over Bama Football

The last time Kentucky beat Alabama was on October 4th, 1997, This us only Kentucky 2nd ever win over the Crimson Tide in football. Legendary College Football Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant coached both of these teams.

Game 4 Preview: #3 Alabama Crimson Tide vs Kentucky Wildcats

The Kentucky Wildcats will play their fourth game of the season taking on the #3 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The game will be played at Commonwealth Stadium. You can catch the game on the SEC Network which will be on your local channels. Kickoff is set for 12:21 PM ET. Hopefully the Cats will have better luck this year vs the Crimson Tide. Last year UK should have beat Alabama on their home turf if it wasn't for a fumble by Mike Hartline that was recovered by Alab Rolando McClain for a TD. If UK were to play like they did last year and don't have any costly turnovers or penalties, UK should stand a chance tomorrow.

Kentucky Basketball Update

The head coach of 2011 recruit Quincy Miller was really pleased with the UK coaches when they met with the coach. The #1 prospect of the 2011 class is being rumored to eventually commit to UK and has been interested in the Cats a long time. Gilchrist and Kyrie Ircing are teammates and have talked numerous times about the possibility of playing together at Kentucky. Landon Slone hopes to talk to Coach Cal about rejoining the team next week. Daniel Orton's father Larry plans on living in Lexington throughout Daniel's whole UK career. There was speculation that Orton would leave for the NBA as soon as he knows he's ready for it and doesn't plan on being a 4-year player. I see this as Orton possibly may play all four years at Kentucky now that his father plans on moving to Lexington. John Calipari also believes this could possibly be his most talented basketball team this year.
